9 Vegan Detox Smoothies With Plant Protein

These 9 Vegan Detox Smoothies pair greens, citrus, ginger and cucumber with real plant protein: pea powder, hemp, chia, and soy or almond milk. Every recipe comes from a published food site, credited and linked. Pick one by protein, sweetness or time, and check the sugar flags before you blend.

Quick Answer: What Makes a Good Vegan Detox Smoothie?

A good one combines leafy greens, a hydrating base, a little fruit for sweetness and a real protein source. Where the original recipes list protein, they land between 10 and 32 grams per serving. The "detox" part is a theme, not a medical effect.

  • Greens: spinach, kale, parsley, cucumber, celery
  • Protein: pea powder, hemp seeds, chia, soy or pea milk
  • Sweetness: kiwi, apple, pear, frozen fruit (watch dates and honey)
  • Liquid first: it helps the blender catch

How to Build a Vegan Detox Smoothie With Plant Protein

Every recipe below follows the same pattern. Learn it once and you can swap ingredients without ruining the texture.

  1. Pour the liquid first. The recipes here use anything from a quarter cup of coconut water to a cup and a half of plant milk.
  2. Add the greens. Spinach is the mildest. Kale needs a stronger blender.
  3. Add body. Frozen banana, pineapple, kiwi, zucchini, cucumber or beet all work.
  4. Add the plant protein. A scoop of pea powder, a tablespoon or two of hemp or chia, or soy milk as the base.
  5. Blend longer than you think. Add ice last and thin with a splash of liquid if the blade stalls.

9 Vegan Detox Smoothie Recipes With Plant Protein

Each recipe below is summarized from a published source and credited under its card. Times, servings and calories come from the original pages. Where a page lists no calories, I left them out rather than guess.

1. Cucumber Kiwi Kale Detox Smoothie (7 Minutes)

Pale green cucumber kiwi kale detox smoothie in a glass with mint and a kiwi slice

This is the lightest smoothie on the list. Cucumber, celery and kiwi keep it fresh, while kale and ginger add a green, slightly sharp edge. A scoop of raw vegan protein powder turns it into a proper snack, and the mint makes it taste clean.

⏱ Total: 7 min 🍽 Serves: 1-2

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cucumber
  • 1 cup kale
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 2 kiwis
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1-2 tbsp superfood protein powder (optional in the source; the author uses a greens protein powder, and any raw vegan protein powder works)
  • 1/2 inch fresh ginger
  • Fresh mint
  • Optional: apple or pineapple for sweetness
  • Toppings of your choice

Instructions

  1. Chop everything into pieces of about 1 inch so the blender can handle it easily.
  2. Add all the ingredients to the blender.
  3. Blend until smooth and drink right away.

Tip: Add apple or pineapple only if you need sweetness; the kiwis already bring some. Sugar check: read the label on your protein or superfood powder for added sugar.

2. Spinach Pear Green Tea Detox Smoothie (2 Minutes)

Mild green spinach pear detox smoothie in a glass with chia seeds on top

Spinach, pear, cucumber and a small ripe banana make a mild, hydrating blend, and the cooled green tea base keeps it light. Chia seeds add a little body. Add a scoop of vegan protein powder if you want it to hold you past mid-morning.

⏱ Total: 2 min 🍽 Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 large handful spinach or chopped kale leaves
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped
  • 1/2 banana, chopped (frozen for a creamier texture)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • A few stalks of parsley leaves
  • 1 scoop vegan protein powder (optional in the source)
  • 1/4 cucumber, chopped
  • 1 small ripe pear, cored and chopped
  • 250 ml cooled green tea or coconut water
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp supergreen powder

Instructions

  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. Drink straight away.

Tip: A frozen banana half makes it creamier without ice. Sugar check: choose unsweetened coconut water, and check the protein and supergreen powder labels for added sugar.

3. Spinach Parsley Peach Detox Smoothie With Pea Protein (7 Minutes)

Light green spinach parsley peach detox smoothie in a glass jar with a bamboo straw

Coconut water, spinach, parsley and ginger give this one a clean flavor, while frozen peaches and banana soften it. The pea protein makes it the heaviest hitter here, at 32 grams by the author's own calculation. A good pick after training or when breakfast keeps getting skipped.

⏱ Total: 7 min 🍽 Serves: 1-2 🔥 376 kcal, 32 g protein (per source, 1 serving)

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened coconut water
  • 1 1/2 cups baby spinach
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley leaves
  • 1/2 Persian cucumber
  • 2 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • A squeeze of lemon
  • 1/2 apple
  • 1 cup frozen peaches
  • 1/2 cup frozen banana slices
  • 1 scoop vanilla pea protein powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup ice

Instructions

  1. Pour the coconut water into the blender.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients on top.
  3. Blend until smooth with no green flecks left. Add more liquid if the blade stalls, or more ice to thicken.
  4. Drink immediately.

Tip: New to green smoothies? The author suggests starting with fewer greens and working up. Sugar check: she recommends a pea protein sweetened with stevia, and your frozen peaches should have no added sugar.

4. Avocado Spinach Kale Green Smoothie With Vegan Protein (Quick Blend)

Creamy bright green avocado spinach kale smoothie in a tall glass with half an avocado beside it

Spinach, kale, avocado and cucumber make this the creamiest of the green blends, and the avocado supplies the fat that keeps you full. One serving of vegan protein powder rounds it out. It uses water instead of milk, so the green flavor stays fresh.

⏱ Quick blend 🍽 Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 handful kale
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2-inch piece of cucumber
  • 1/4 cup diced celery
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 serving vegan protein powder (the source suggests a plant-based nutritional shake powder)
  • 3/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth and drink.

Tip: Pick a mild-tasting protein powder so the avocado and lemon stay in front. Sugar check: read the powder's label for added sugar and sweeteners.

5. Kiwi Celery Detox Smoothie With Optional Protein (6 Minutes)

Bright green kiwi celery detox smoothie in a glass bottle on a wooden cutting board with kiwi halves

A bright, sharp smoothie built on kiwi, citrus and celery juice, with ginger and parsley in the background. On its own it is light, so the vegan protein powder is what turns it from a refreshing drink into a snack. Serve it over ice.

⏱ Total: 6 min 🍽 Serves: 2 🔥 105 kcal (per source, without protein powder)

Ingredients

  • 2 kiwis, peeled
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 6 oz fresh celery juice (5-6 large stalks) or unsweetened coconut water
  • 4 oz fresh orange juice
  • 1 sprig parsley
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp vegan protein powder (an optional add-in in the source)
  • Optional: small handful of baby spinach, lightly steamed and cooled
  • Optional: 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Optional: 1 tsp maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until combined.
  2. Add ice if you like, or pour over ice, and serve right away.

Tip: The 105 kcal figure assumes celery juice and no protein or sweetener, so a scoop of powder adds to it. Sugar check: this has orange juice, and the source's optional honey is not vegan, so use maple syrup.

6. Strawberry Banana Spinach Protein Smoothie (5 Minutes)

Pink strawberry banana spinach protein smoothie in a glass jar surrounded by strawberries and spinach leaves

Strawberries and banana make this the friendliest option for anyone nervous about green drinks. The spinach barely shows up in the taste, and pea protein plus chia seeds give it some staying power. Use fully frozen fruit and skip the ice for a thicker texture.

⏱ Total: 5 min 🍽 Serves: 2 🔥 205 kcal, 10 g protein (per source)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups non-dairy milk (the author uses unsweetened)
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 cup frozen banana
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1-2 tbsp unflavored pea protein
  • 2 tsp chia seeds
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 1 Medjool date, optional, if you need extra sweetness

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk into the blender, then add everything else.
  2. Blend until smooth and drink right away.

Tip: If your blender is weak, blend the spinach with the milk first, then add the frozen fruit. Sugar check: taste before adding the date, and check the frozen strawberries and plant milk for added sugar.

7. Beet Orange Zucchini Smoothie With Vegan Protein (5 Minutes)

Bright pink beet orange zucchini smoothie in a glass jar with chopped raw beet in a small dish beside it

Beet gives this smoothie its bright pink color and a mild earthy note, while orange, zucchini and spinach keep it fresh. A scoop of vanilla vegan protein brings it to 25 grams, according to the author. Add half a banana if beets are not your thing.

⏱ Total: 5 min 🍽 Serves: 1 🔥 258 kcal, 25 g protein (per source)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk of choice (250 ml), plus more to adjust the thickness
  • 1 small beet, chopped (100 g)
  • 1 cup chopped zucchini (100 g)
  • 1 navel orange, peeled and frozen (100 g)
  • 1 cup lightly packed fresh spinach (25 g)
  • 1 serving vanilla vegan protein powder (30 g)
  • 1/2 frozen banana (for extra sweetness if you want it)

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk into a high-speed blender, then add the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Start on low and slowly raise the speed. Blend longer than you think you need to, until completely smooth, and add a little milk if it is too thick.
  3. Pour into a glass and drink.

Tip: No high-speed blender? Grate the beet or use a cooked one. Sugar check: the orange and optional banana add natural sugar, and the protein powder and milk should be unsweetened where possible.

8. Matcha Banana Cucumber Smoothie With Vanilla Protein (Quick Blend)

Light green matcha banana cucumber protein smoothie in a glass topped with hemp and chia seeds

Matcha brings a gentle caffeine lift without coffee, and spinach and cucumber keep the flavor mild. Frozen banana makes it creamy, vanilla protein rounds it out, and hemp seeds add a little extra. A solid morning swap when you want something green but not heavy.

⏱ Quick blend 🍽 Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 1/2 cup cucumber
  • 1 tsp matcha powder
  • 1 scoop vanilla plant-based protein powder
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup almond or hemp milk

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender.
  2. Blend to the thickness you like, adding more milk if it is too thick.
  3. Pour into a glass. Sprinkle chia and hemp seeds on top if you want.

Tip: Matcha contains caffeine, so skip this one late in the day if you are sensitive. Sugar check: use unsweetened milk, and read the label on the vanilla protein powder for added sugar.

9. Hidden Greens Chocolate Protein Shake (5 Minutes)

Thick chocolate hidden greens protein shake in a glass with a frozen banana and kale on the counter

Do not let the chocolate fool you: there is kale in here, and you will barely taste it. Hemp hearts provide the protein, banana and dates sweeten it, and a spoon of avocado gives it a thick, milkshake-style body. Use a strong blender.

⏱ Total: 5 min 🍽 Serves: 2 (makes 3 cups) 🔥 250 kcal, 10 g protein per 1 1/2 cups (per source)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup frozen organic kale
  • 2-3 large pitted Medjool dates, to taste
  • 2 tbsp hulled hemp seeds
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 large frozen banana
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp avocado, for thickening
  • Ice, if desired

Instructions

  1. Add everything to a high-speed blender.
  2. Blend until smooth, then adjust the sweetness to taste.

Tip: If your dates are dry or stiff, soak them in boiled water for 30 minutes and drain first. Sugar check: this one has 2 to 3 dates plus a banana, so start with two.

Do Vegan Detox Smoothies Actually Detox Your Body?

EUFIC, a European food science information group, cites a critical review that found no proof detox diets remove toxins or help with weight loss. Your liver and kidneys already do that work, whatever you eat.

So why blend them? A smoothie built from greens, fruit, seeds and protein is a fast way to eat more plants. Treat the word "detox" as a theme, not a promise, and never let vegan detox smoothies replace real meals.

In my own routine, I treat a green smoothie as a breakfast or post-workout habit, not a cleanse. The ones with a scoop of protein keep me full until lunch. The ones without feel more like a light snack.

Plant Protein Options for Smoothies

These are the add-ins used across the nine recipes. Protein figures come from the sources linked at the end of this article.

OptionWhat it addsGood to know
Pea protein powderConcentrated protein with all nine essential amino acidsUnflavored lets the fruit lead
Pea and brown rice blendAmino profile closer to whey, per one dietitianCheck the label for added sugar
Hemp seedsAbout 6 g protein per 2 tbspNeeds a strong blender to go smooth
Chia seedsAbout 6 g protein per 2 tbspThickens the smoothie as it sits
Soy or pea milkAbout 8 g protein per cupPick unsweetened

When I first added pea protein, my smoothies tasted chalky. Switching to an unflavored powder and always using a frozen banana fixed it. If a powder tastes bad on its own, it will not improve in the blender.

Sugar and Label Check for Vegan Detox Smoothies

"Healthy" blends can still carry hidden sugar. Run through this list before you shop or blend.

  • Protein and superfood powders (recipes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8): read the label for added sugar or sweeteners. Unflavored is the safest choice.
  • Honey (recipe 5): the source lists it as an option, but honey is not vegan. Use maple syrup.
  • Dates (recipes 6 and 9): recipe 9 uses two to three Medjool dates, which add real sugar.
  • Fruit juice (recipe 5): 4 oz of orange juice, plus the natural sugar in two kiwis.
  • Coconut water (recipes 2, 3, 5): buy unsweetened.
  • Plant milks (recipes 6, 7, 8, 9): choose unsweetened.
  • Frozen fruit (recipes 3 and 6): check the bag for added sugar.

I used to throw three dates into everything. Now I taste first and add one only if the fruit is not ripe enough. Most days the banana is plenty.

Which Vegan Detox Smoothie Should You Make?

Prep-Ahead and Storage Tips

  • Freezer packs: portion spinach, banana and berries into bags or jars, freeze them, then add liquid and protein on blending day.
  • Best fresh: two of the sources say to drink right away.
  • Leftovers: one source keeps a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
  • Thicker texture: use frozen fruit instead of ice so the flavor stays strong.

Vegan Detox Smoothies FAQ

What are vegan detox smoothies?

Vegan detox smoothies are blended drinks made with plant ingredients, usually leafy greens, citrus, ginger, cucumber and fruit, with no dairy or honey. The detox label is a marketing theme. They are best seen as an easy way to eat more vegetables.

Can a smoothie really detox the body?

No smoothie removes toxins. Your liver and kidneys do that continuously. A smoothie can still help you eat more produce and protein, which is a worthwhile goal on its own.

How much protein should a smoothie have?

Adults generally need about 0.8 g of protein per kg of body weight daily, and regular exercise raises that to 1.2 to 2 g per kg, according to The Globe and Mail. For a 70 kg adult, 0.8 g per kg is 56 g a day. One smoothie covers part of that.

Do I need protein powder?

No. Hemp seeds, chia seeds and soy or pea milk all add protein. Recipe 9 relies on hemp seeds alone, and three recipes list protein powder as optional. Powder simply makes it easier to reach a higher number.

Can I make them ahead?

Yes. Freeze the produce in portions and blend when you need it. A finished smoothie keeps up to 24 hours in a sealed jar in the fridge, per one source, but tastes best fresh.

Can a smoothie replace a meal?

Some can. The beet smoothie's author calls it fairly low in calories and suggests adding nut butter, seeds or oats to make it a meal. If you have a medical condition or take medication, check with your doctor before changing your diet.

Final Thoughts

Pick one recipe, make it twice and then start swapping. Change the greens, change the fruit, change the protein. That habit matters more than any single vegan detox smoothie or any promise on a label.

I rotate spinach, kale and cucumber through the week so I never get bored. Start with the strawberry banana version if you are new to green drinks.
